In the City of London, Narrow Cycle Lane Defenders have been used as kerbs to extend pavements, allowing social distancing to be maintained in crowded areas. For this installation on Gracechurch Street, completed last summer, the units were positioned on the road and then fixed directly to the surface. The extended pavement was then backfilled with bitumen in a process that took just hours to complete without the need for excavation.
